Hanging Out With Teenagers: Getting My Groove On!

Our granddaughter Kylie has been spending time with us this summer, learning to manage the office and getting reacquainted with her La Pine cousins and making new friends on the softball field.  It has been such fun hanging out with her, and learning about what she likes.

We actually enjoy many of the same things, but, being a grandma, no matter how "with it" that I like to think that I am, there is a whole world out there that I have been previously unaware of.  Especially in the world of music.  I believed that I was well-rounded in this area, and I really do enjoy many types of the stuff.  Hanging out for all those days on the Nike football field last month, I even began to enjoy the rap music that was playing all day long.  Good thing that I am rather adaptable, or that stuff would have driven me crazy.  Some of the words were pretty nasty on those songs, but the beat was great.

Anyway, Kylie and I were listening to the radio on the way home from Bend the other day, on her station, and she introduced me to a group called LMFAO; a group that Kylie has recently seen in concert, and that plays techno music.  They do a dance called "The Shuffle" and have a couple of videos on You-Tube where they show you how to do it.  It is all fun stuff.  We won't go into what their name might actually stand for, and the second video it a little tiny bit off color, but I think they are funny.  If you think you might want to check them out, here are two of their videos:

"Party Rock Anthem"

"LMFAO Teaches Us How To Shuffle"

Don't ask me why, but I just had to throw these guys into this post.  It must be the party on part.  Did you know that Wayne and Garth guys have a Facebook Fan Page?  Well, they do.

ha ha, that shuffle is rather funny. It's kind of how I look when I actually try to dance, only they make it look like a real dance. I got confused after the first step.

I love that you're a cool grandma, open to bonding on your granddaughter's level. My mom can't seem to relax to the teen language and such and I worry it makes the bonding harder. I had such a fabulous grandma (both, actually, though I lost one pretty young)--but I'd love my kids to have that, too. Definitely hope when i get there, I can be that way.

You've got to be one of the coolest grandmas ever. I bet you're a blast to hang with.

I always say it...I'm envious! All I have is a magnetic bone on the bumper of my car that says "I love my granddogs." I wish I were kidding. *sigh*

Lynn, you are so funny! Now I want a video of you, to see if the two of us dance the same, lol.

Hi Hart, well, I don't know if I'm cool or not, but i just try to be myself. It seems as if it wasn't long ago when I was almost 19 and had a big wedding planned. Dang.

For instance, I had this post all written except for the Wayne's World afterthought, and when I finally figured out what LMFAO meant and though, uh-oh, this is going to make somebody upset. Your Mom probably wouldn't like my blog now, lol. I'm sure that she loves your girls very much, and that you will be an awesome grandmother when the time comes! I too had a great relationship with my grandma's,and am very grateful for that.

Hi Lisa, well, I do try to be nice ... not sure how hip I am, lol. I cannot wait for you to become a grandma either ... and to watch everything unfold. Those grandkids do make great subject matter for our blogs, that is for sure.

Hi Becky, I thought that you would enjoy that! Thanks so much for coming by to visit.
