This and That Thursday:

Hello Friends!

It is that time of the week again.  My online diary entry that kind of sums things up for the week that I haven't mentioned yet.

First, I went to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned.  They are getting very fancy over there, at the dentist.  They have new machines, computers and t.v. screens.  They had me stand in this surround/digital x-ray contraption.  In my humble opinion, they should be using these for mammograms too.  Painless!

Okay, brace yourself for this next photo.  You will be either fascinated, grossed out, or land someplace in between.  The machine above sent this information about my mouth to the hygienist's computer in the exam room:

Yep, that's me!
No cavities, either.

Recent Reads

I have finished two books this week.  They are older ones ... ones that I got at the book sale.  The paperback cost me .50 and the hardback cost me $1.00.

The first one took me forever to finish.  I'm sorry to say that I didn't really enjoy it that much, even though it only cost me .50.  It was Faye Kellerman's Moon Music, and was written in 1998.  The story is set in Las Vegas, and involves some possible side effects of the 1950's-1960's nuclear bomb testing that took place in Nevada.  Side effects that involve shape shifting, eating people, and murdering prostitutes.  I learned some other things in this book too (the non-fiction parts) that I might want to research someday.  Like taking school kids on field trips to lay in ditches as they dropped the bombs.

The second book I read was LaVyrle Spencer's last book, Then Came Heaven.  (I just looked her up, she is fine; she just retired from writing romance novels, that's all.)  It was published in 1997, and is a good story set in 1950 about a small town widower, and a nun who eventually stops being a nun. Then they fall in love and get married.  It is a story told very well, and I learned a lot about how the Catholic church and the life of sisterhood.  I would recommend this book to anybody.  It is clean, good, and easy to read.  It kept my attention and I cared about what was going to happen to the characters.  You can't ask much more than that!

This week I plan on reading the rest of the stories in the books that I bought from Lisa Richard Claro and Becky Povich.  Lisa is published in From the Heart: A Collection of Stories and Poems from the Front Lines of Parenting, and Becky has a story published in Thin Threads: More Real Life Stories of Life Changing Moments.  I read their stories as soon as I received the books, but haven't read the rest of the books yet. They should be inspirational and positive.

Well, what else?  We are looking forward to having our granddaughter Kylie spend next week with us.  Cary has lined her up to shadow EMT's and other related jobs.  That should be fun!  I'll try to get in on some of that, and take some good pictures to share with you on here.

My BFF Nancy's daughter Terra and her man Alan are now married!  They had a sweet and simple ceremony at home. Congratulations, you two!  Your gift is almost done and on the way.

Wow -- you packed a lot into that post! You're brave to show your dental x-ray. LOL Thanks for the shout-out. I hope you enjoy the book! My last read was The Road by Cormac McCarthy (different, but excellent) and now I'm in the middle of a Fannie Flagg book. I usually like her stuff, but this one isn't so great. I can't even remember the name of it! I'll finish reading it, though...

Hi Lesa, me too! I think it is funny that I review old books on here, but I figure lots of folks review the new releases. We have a little bookstore at the library that is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The books are so cheap there. I go every couple of months and spend $10 to add to my library.

Hi Lisa, that x-ray cracked me up! You can even see my ear canals. I haven't read those authors yet; I'll keep my eyes open.

Hi Becky, I spent hours reading the book that you are in yesterday. I love it. It gave me lots of ideas for similar stories of my own. It is very inspirational, and I am so happy to have my copy autographed by you!

One of my libraries has a little store too! I posted all last year on my occasional thrifty book hauls-- I decided to start an official recurrent feature to highlight all my finds-- I'll have my first post up soon-- you might want to participate too.
