Following:

I want to thank everybody who has been following me.  I appreciate it very much.  Please believe me on that point.  However, I have just lost the third follower in two weeks and it hurts my feelings.  My blog is supposed to be a fun, rewarding and creative endeavor for me, and something that is enjoyable for you guys, and not something that is should hurt my feelings.  It is my diary, for gosh sakes!  I work hard to turn out a good product.  I share my life, my family and my photos.  I have had almost 41,000 visitors since I put in my hit counter a year and a half ago, and my cluster map shows return visitors from all over the world.  Yay!  And, this is post number 1145.  After two and a half years though, I have 63 followers, and many of those have come from holding contests to increase my following, or recently because of SJ's Swap Followers linky party ... click here to find out more about that, because she does have a great idea that works and is building a nice community over there: Homemaker on a Dime.

So, I am going to remove the feature that bugs the me the most about my blog:  the "Follower" section.  I have decided to buck the blogging culture, and not worry about the number of followers that I have.  I appreciate your comments and your emails; on here, on Facebook, and on my Hotmail account.  I visit and email those of you who leave me comments.  I post your blogs on my sidebar, without worrying about reciprocity.   If you feel like we click and have something in common, I look forward to creating a friendship with you.  I will still follow new blogs that I enjoy, and if you are having a contest to increase your following and are my friend, I will put it on here.  This is just my own deal.  I understand why people like getting new followers, and am not trying to make a statement ... I'm just tired of getting discouraged about this particular issue.

That said, I promised the last five ladies who signed up to follow Oregon Gifts that I would highlight them.  I usually do this on Mondays, but I am going to go ahead and do it now:

To visit Chrissy @ Roses, Rhubarb and Pearls please click here.

To visit Stephanie @ My Sweet Heart please click here.

To visit Rachel @ Lovely Crafty Home please click here.

To visit Lynn @ Cottage and Creek, please click here.

To visit Jen @ Ozona, please click here.

Thank you, Chrissy, Stephanie, Rachel, Lynn and Jen.  Sorry that I changed horses on you in mid-stream.

I appreciate every one of you who enjoys reading my blog, and I will keep moving forward.  I don't understand why people join up and then withdraw, but apparently, sometimes they do.  I understand how we can drift away from reading blogs that we signed up for, but to actually remove your name seems a bit like a statement of its own.  Because I try to celebrate the positive and keep mean things off of here, I kind of take it personally.  Oh well, life goes on.  If you drop me for writing this, at least I will never know.

God bless and have a great weekend,

Kathy

Love this post! Think we have all been there! I had three people unfollow me in a couple of days after I posted a rather Christian post, and I get that. But then I had three unfollows in one day and I was only posting decor, and pretty decor (if I don't say so myself), still baffled by that one. But the very next day after the three unfollows, one sweet blogger came on and said that I had a such a special site, made it all worth it. Since then I have come to think of it as an attrition rate, for every x amount that follow, x amount will unfollow. That helps, but it is still is kind of yucky.

Oh, and I love your blog! Your joyful eclectic style is so wonderful.

Kathy, please don't worry about fickle followers! Like Jessa Irene I lose and gain followers all of the time. You know what though...I actually don't blog for followers so I am just like you. I blog for me, to make friends like you from all around the world and I blog so that I can keep up my IT skills and keep up to date with trends from all over the globe. You have the right attitude about this blog being just for you! Keep this as personal as you want to as it is YOUR blog!

Best wishes from your Aussie blend,
Natasha.

Hi Natasha, thank you for your encouragement. Maybe some folks stumbled across me when I was having a contest and decided later on that they didn't really want to follow after all. Who knows? I was just kind of upset last night. You are a very special friend too! I liked your points about how blogging keeps our skills up and in my case increased my photography skills.

Kathy, Don't feel bad about "followers" dropping. I just read someone's post that had "pointers" for blogging. One point was to not take it personally if people "come and go" on your blog--they do for various reasons and it is "no big deal". Sometimes it becomes a little overwhelming to try to keep up with everybody. I love your blog and look forward to checking in frequently. We need to talk more about Kansas and see if we know any of the same people. Have a great day. Mickie

Hi Mickie, I know that you are right. It was just the head space that I was in last night. But I think I will still keep the Follower widget off for a while, and try to get to know those who leave comments/emails better. Thanks, I'll be in touch!
