My new friend ...

The other day, on the way home from Salem, we stopped in Sisters, at Bronco Billy's for a bite to eat.  I sat down next to this old guy and we began to visit.  I was in an open and talkative mood, and I told him that we had been in Salem for an association meeting.  He told me that he had not been to Salem for years and years, but that a guy he went to college with was the kid of the people who owned the big woolen mills there.

One thing led to another, and before he knew it, he told me his whole life story within about half an hour.  It was so cool, so in the moment, so nice of him to tell me of his life and nice of me to be interested.  I made a new friend, right then and there.  So did he.

I'm not going to put his life story on here, but I do want to thank Mr. D. for doing these things and for telling me about them.  He was a college kid at the U of O, a frat boy, a ROTC member during WWII,  College was interrupted as he was called into combat, going overseas to fight in infantry.  Injured, and in military hospitals for 18 months, he healed, returned home and lived a good life with his wife and 3 kids.

Cary bought him a drink and we thanked him for serving as a soldier and fighting to keep our country free.  God bless you ... Mr. D.
