Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews |
On Wednesday, July 13th, Cary and I visited the Oregon Zoo in Portland. We got there as it opened, and stayed for a couple of hours. There is a lot of walking involved, but it was really neat. It only cost $10.50 for adults to get in, plus they charge more for parking (though the nice lady didn't charge us for that because we happened to give her exact change and she made an administrative decision).
If you want to see the big cats, they sleep in until early afternoon. I didn't get any pictures of them. Sorry. The bears were pretty sleepy too, but at least we could see them.
I hadn't been to a zoo for years and had forgotten that it really is a magical place. The little kids were all so excited, and it was fun to listen to their random comments. One little boy was telling his mommy that he wanted walnuts and cake for lunch. Sounds good to me!
I do wish that the outside windows were cleaned each day (where the penguins and polar bears were), because it would have made for better viewing and better pictures, but I worked with what I had. Here are several of the pictures that I liked. I put them all into the slide show below, and will pull some out for stories and linky parties later on.
Thanks so much for stopping by to visit, and I really hope that you enjoy this particular post.

Nice pics Kathy! We have a super nice zoo in St. Louis that's free and if it weren't so doggone hot, I'd go as I was inspired looking at your pics! Maybe when it gets cooler. The Zoo is a fun, magical place so long as you're not drenched in sweat.
Thank you, Lynn! I can't wait to see your zoo pictures. Free? You can't beat that. I hope that it cools down for all of you soon...what a difficult weather year for you.
