Gwen:
This is my friend Gwen. I met her when she was 10 years old. Gwen wanted to become a vet when she grew up, and she did. Now she is one of my Facebook friends, and I follow her life through her posts. I got these pictures off of Gwen's FB page.
Gwen loves going to Africa and working with the Maasai children. She goes on teams from America, and serves with a group called Precious Life International. When Gwen went to Africa last year, she met a baby boy named Pasha, who needed heart surgery. Gwen raised awareness about his situation, and last week Pasha and his mother flew to New Orleans for the life saving medical treatment that he needed.

Dear Friends and Family - Spring, 2010
It is that time again! I am beginning to prepare for my third trip to Kenya. I will be leaving August 20th and returning September 11th this fall.
This trip promises to be particularly eventful! First, I will get to meet Pasha and his family for the first time! Pasha is the baby who came to the United States in February for heart surgery. For any of you not familiar with the story, please let me know and I can fill you in. Pasha’s family lives in the Narok area, which is the area in which we do most of our medical work. They have asked me to set aside some time to spend with them while I am there.
At the end of the trip last year, I was asked by Shelley (our team leader) and Steve Kaputa (the founder of Precious Life International) to take on a more official role with the organization. I am now the assistant medical director for PLI. I will be assisting Shelley in trip planning, as well as being the person in charge of planning and organizing the pharmacy for the medical clinics.
I have also been asked to return to the Maasai girls’ leadership camp a week prior to the arrival of the team. This was an incredible experience last year! The girls just blossomed in their passion for learning to study God’s word. It also opened a new world to many of them. Many heard for the first time that they can have the freedom to choose to pursue their dreams and use the gifts God has given them. It was also a time for healing- the majority of these girls have suffered tremendous pain and loss in their lives, and many shared their experiences and heart-ache with us and with each other for the first time. I have desperately missed the girls this year, and ache to see them again. I hope to teach a daily class on the story of Esther during the camp, focusing on how God has a plan for each of us, and that God loves us enough to be present in every aspect of our lives.
Kenya is currently recovering from one of the most severe droughts in the history of the country. It is estimated that well over half of the country’s livestock were lost to dehydration and starvation. The need is greater than ever in Kenya. I know that funds are tight in the States this year as well, and I ask that you prayerfully consider whether you are able to assist me financially with this trip. The estimated cost of the trip is around $4000, depending mostly on plane ticket prices.
Donations can be made through Eugene Christian Fellowship, making them tax deductible. Checks to the church should say “Gwen- Kenya 2010” on the subject line. Anyone wishing to help but not wanting to donate through the church can send funds to me, where they will be put aside specifically for trip expenses. I also ask that you consider being a part of my prayer team, committing to pray for me, the team, and Kenya as I prepare to go, while I am there, and when I return.
