Book Blurb Friday #3: "Finding Jennifer"

Okay, now I am going to do something that I am always hesitant (CHICKEN!!!) to do, and that is to do a bit of creative writing. Lisa Ricard Claro from Writing in the Buff,  has started a new Friday meme called Book Blurb Friday, and since she chose one of my photos to use this week, I feel like I should at least try.

What you do is look at the picture, and write a short blurb that would go on the inside of a book cover describing what the book is about.  You get 150 words to work with.  (I had it in my mind that we got 200, so this one is exactly that amount.  Next week I'll use 150.)  Here is what I came up with:

Finding Jennifer

"Hopping off the Greyhound in the quaint little town of Centralia, Jennifer grabbed her backpack and walked to the remodeled hotel where she and Eric would be spending the weekend.

Knowing that she would be getting there first, Jen went into the hotel lounge to wait. Settling herself down at the only open seat at the bar, Jen greeted the bartender.  She noticed that the place looked a bit seedy; different than when they were last there.  The guy on her left gave her the creeps, and she wished that Eric would hurry up and arrive.

Jen ordered a glass of Merlot, and then used the restroom.  As she walked back to the bar, she noticed the creepy man checking her out.  Feeling uncomfortable, she sipped her wine. It wasn't long before Jen's vision began to blur.  What was happening? She had felt fine all day.  Eric, hurry up and get here, Jen thought to herself.  She watched her neighbor exit through the back door leading into the alley.  That, my friends, is the last thing she did remember.

When Eric arrived 45 minutes later, Jen and her backpack were gone.  The bartender claimed she had never been there…"

So, there it is.  My story.  I hope it gets a tiny bit of approval from the published writers also be submitting stories.  It was fun, actually and really not that scary after all.  If you think you would like to try, or if you want to read others take on the photo, make sure to go over to Writing in the Buff.  Lisa gives us a week to think about our story by posting the next week's photo on Fridays.  Hey, Lisa picked one of my photos for next week too!  Thanks, Lisa.

Woo-hoo! I'm so proud of you! You've been nervous about sharing your creative writing, so this was outside your comfort zone, but you nailed it! Great job. Very nicely done! You're officially a Friday Blurber! Now finish writing the story...I want to know what happens next!

Way to go Kathy! If I can do this, anyone can. I was totally nervous too and this is the only "meme" thing I do and it's really been pretty fun. I am amazed at all the talent out there! And that goes for you too now!

Kathy,
We had almost the same story line idea! I liked your take on the bar scene too!

Exciting! I get so tense reading stories like this - you know, the sweaty palms, heart beating fast, must find out sort of tense:-)

It's taken me a while to negotiate all these Friday Blurb contributors, and interesting to find another bar story - but unsurprising I suppose. Cliff-hanger ending.

I'm with everyone else. I want to find out what happened, and how it ends up.

By the way, I love your photos. The one Lisa used--a cool one--and your photos of the pines and the sky---gorgeous.
